When news broke a while back that Warner Bros. were looking to cast Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a Shazam film, rumors that he was offered both the role of Shazam and Black Adam came with it. Given the choice The Rock chose to play Black Adam instead of the hero and he recently explained his choice to Digital Spy.
“It’s a mythology that I love, It’s been with me for almost 10 years now. What made me choose Black Adam is was, I just felt like Black Adam was inherently more interesting to me, because I felt like there were more layers to Black Adam, starting out as a slave, then ultimately becoming the anti-hero that we know today. But I’ve always said that’s got to be earned.” Johnson said.
You can check out the interview below, but don’t get too excited, Shazam won’t be in theaters until April 5, 2019.
