No Surprises Here, But Deadpool Is Crushing It And Breaking Records At The Box Office

Anticipation for the film was at an all time high in the months leading up to the premiere of “Deadpool.” Fans had been asking for the film to be made for years and as the trailers and clips started to roll out it became obvious that it would be worth the wait.

“Deadpool” is a very different kind of Marvel movie compared to what people are used to, and it appears to be the breath of fresh air people have been looking for. The film has already managed to pull in $135 million domestically and $125 million internationally for an opening weekend total of $260 million at the worldwide box office. It’s also estimated that the film could bring in as much as $150 million domestically over the long four day weekend.

The film also broke the all time record for the biggest domestic opening for a R-rated movie. “Deadpool” cruised right by the previous record set by “The Matrix Reloaded” with $91.7 million in 2003.

According to Forbes “Deadpool” is also the biggest opening in the history of 20th Century Fox, surpassing the “X-Men” movies and six of the “Star Wars” films. The merc with a mouth also earned himself the 7th biggest opening weekend ever for a comic book movie.

On top of being a big box office draw, “Deadpool” is also receiving a lot of praise from fans and critics alike. The positive word of mouth is going to do nothing but help this film at the box office. The movie has already been greenlit for a sequel and Cable is set to join the cast next time around. One thing’s for sure “Deadpool” has arrived and people are loving it.
