Scott Derrickson teamed up with Marvel for “Doctor Strange” last year, and the film was a big hit at the box office and with critics. Although “Doctor Strange 2” has yet to officially be announced, Derrickson has confirmed that he has ideas for a sequel, and he has some thoughts on new characters possibly joining the MCU.

Derrickson recently spoke to Screen Rant about characters he would like to see in the MCU, and he noted that he still has hope that the Fantastic Four can be integrated into the universe somehow.

“I mean, there’s a lot of discussion about Moon Knight maybe coming into the MCU. I think that’s a good idea. I dunno…Actually, scratch that answer. Here’s my answer. My answer is this: I still have hope that Fantastic Four can be properly brought into the MCU because a lot of Doctor Strange – that’s the comment I read the most during that. I love those characters and I think that they still deserve another shot at finding a true home in the MCU. I still have hope for that. That’s my honest answer.”

It remains to be seen if Scott Derrickson will get his wish, as the Fantastic Four rights still belong to FOX. There was some speculation that Marvel had worked out a deal with FOX following the disastrous reboot that was released in 2015. But those rumors were squashed months ago.

After three attempts FOX can’t seem to get it right with the Fantastic Four, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try again.

As far as their future in the MCU goes, although FOX currently owns the film rights, nothing is off the table nowadays, and the deal Marvel to share Spider-Man with Sony is a perfect example of how the Fantastic Four and the MCU could come together.

Will it happen? Hopefully someday, but probably not anytime soon.
