Laurel Lance recently returned during the midseason finale of “Arrow” and the midseason premiere titled “Who Are You?” is going to be a very Laurel-centric episode. Before Laurel passed away in season 4 she made Oliver promise that she wouldn’t be the last Black Canary. She told him that as long as the Black Canary is out there with the Green Arrow, there will always be a part of her with Oliver.

Producer Wendy Mericle recently told TV Line that there’s “definitely a possibility” we could see a new Black Canary by the end of season 5, and that Black Canary will always be a part of the show.

“Look, it’s hard to do a show about Green Arrow without having a Black Canary. I don’t know if it will happen this season or when, but… we are going to be true to origins in the DC universe, and she’s always going to be there.”

Marc Guggenheim was also asked about a recent promo which answered one of the most important questions regarding Laurel’s return, and he revealed that the showrunners have a very specific game plan in mind.

“Without commenting on the promo, which I have nothing to do with…,” Guggenheim pointed out, “[and] without commenting on the spoiler, I would say that the episode ends with laying a very specific seed, with a very specific game plan on our part that we hope to see come to fruition.”

We’ll find out more about what type of seed the writers are trying to plant when “Arrow” returns on Wednesday, January 25.
