“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” shows no signs of slowing down at the box office. Everyone expected the film to do well, and it’s shattered several records so far. Now the film is on pace to break two more box office records before the weekend is out.
Before the day is through “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will cross the $900 million mark at the North American box office and it will be the first film to do so. As far as worldwide gross goes, the film currently stands right under the $2 billion mark. A number which it will certainly reach before the weekend is over. Once “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” reaches $2 billion at the worldwide box office it will become only the third film in history to reach that milestone.
Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn commented on the achievement:
“The film’s achievements are truly astounding, and it’s our great honor to relaunch this cinematic galaxy not only for all the devoted decades-long fans but for a new generation who will keep the Star Wars legacy alive for many years to come,”
It remains to be seen if this film can topple Avatar’s global record which currently stands at a worldwide gross of $2.788 billion at the box office. But “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has only been out for 52 days so matter which way you look at it, the numbers it’s generated so far are impressive.
“Star Wars” fans won’t have to wait too much longer to travel to a galaxay far, far away. “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is due out in December of this year with the yet to be titled “Episode VIII” set for release in December of 2017.
