J.J. Abrams Clarifies His Comments About Rey’s Parents Not Being In Episode VII

The big question everyone’s been asking since “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was released is: who are Rey’s parents? Everyone’s got a theory, but director J.J. Abrams raised a lot of eyebrows during a Q & A session at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday when he said that Rey’s parents are not in “Episode VII.”

“Rey’s parents are not in Episode VII,” Abrams said to the crowd. “So I can’t possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too.”

As you can imagine, Star Wars fans immediately went crazy because if that were true, it would debunk a lot of theories about where Rey comes from. It seems that there was a lot of confusion regarding Abrams’ comments about Rey’s parentage because he spoke to Entertainment Weekly after the Q & A and clarified what he meant.

“What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world,” Abrams said.

Fear not, Star Wars fans because all of the theories about who Rey’s parents could be are still in place. Who do you think her parents are? Sound off in the comments below.
