“Spider-Man 3” proved to be a very divisive film among fans. The movie did very well at the box office, but it pissed a lot of people off thanks to emo Peter Parker and his dancing ways. Topher Grace, who played Eddie Brock in the film, recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the movie and he defended it along with how much work Sam Raimi put into it.
“I know the movie did well for Sony, but I also know a lot of people weren’t happy with it. I think Sam [Raimi] is so talented. I remember one time I was on ninth unit. (Laughs.) Ninth unit? It’s like he’s running a small country. This summer, there was a movie like that where people are just slamming a big studio movie. I would love to see anyone who’s slamming one of those movies try to fit in Sam Raimi’s position. He was like the president of a small country — by the way, it had the gross national income of a small country, too. I have huge respect for him. I think, on a whole, he did such a fantastic job [on that trilogy].” Grace said.
Although the film did well enough at the box office, the backlash from fans and critics alike was enough to halt plans for a fourth Spider-Man movie under Sam Raimi. That of course led to The Amazing Spider-Man reboot series which eventually brought us to where we are now with Spider-Man joining the MCU.
Spider-Man will return to the big screen next year in “Captain America: Civil War.”
