Everybody knew that “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” would be a force to be reckoned with at the box office and it’s been breaking records just about every day since it was released. The film has now grossed $1.536 billion worldwide and toppled blockbusters such as “The Avengers” and “Furious 7” to become the fourth highest grossing m0vie ever according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” only needs to overtake three more films to become the highest grossing movie of all time. James Cameron’s “Avatar” sits in the number one spot with a worldwide total of $2.7 billion worldwide followed by “Titanic” with $2.1 billion. With the way things have been going it wouldn’t be a surprise to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” take over the top spot at some point.
To put things in perspective, the third highest grossing movie ever, “Jurassic World” made $1.669 billion in 23 weeks. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has made $1.5 billion dollars in only three weeks. By this time next week Star Wars will likely be sitting comfortably in the number three position and gunning for number two with a bullet.
Not only is “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” crushing it at the box office, but it’s still receiving favorable reviews from fans and critics alike and many people are returning to see the film several times. Fans won’t have to wait much longer for more Star Wars films as “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is set to be released on December 16, 2016 and the yet to be titled Episode VIII is due for release on May 26, 2017.
One thing is for sure, Star Wars is back and it’s back in a big way.
