There’s been a lot of talk about a potential Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover movie over the past few months. Just a few weeks back director Bryan Singer told Yahoo! Movies that “ideas are in play” in regards to the film becoming a reality.
“Those ideas are in play. That would be a natural match-up because they’re both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it.” Singer said.
“It deals with time. That’s all I’m going to say.” he added
Now producer Simon Kinberg is claiming that the two teams exist only in parallel universes.
“They exist in parallel universes. The Fantastic 4 live in a world without mutants. And the X-Men live in a world without the Fantastic 4. Crossing them over would be challenging. But we sure would love to see all those actors together, the way we had them on stage at Comic Con.” Kinberg told the New York Daily News.
Creating shared film universes is all the rage right now and it certainly seemed like that’s the direction Fox intended to go with X-Men, Gambit, Deadpool and Fantastic Four. But now it appears there’s a little bit of confusion regarding the direction of their cinematic universe.
In any case, “X-Men: Apocalypse” is set to be released next year and “Fantastic Four” is scheduled to get a sequel in 2017, if it survives this weekend.
