Robert Downey Jr. has been a vital member of the MCU. He helped to kick things off with “Iron Man” back in 2008 but he hasn’t had his own solo film since “Iron Man 3.” Many fans are dying to see another film focused on Tony Stark but it doesn’t seem to be in the cards right now. It looks like the closest thing we’re going to get for now is “Civil War” which according to Robert Downey Jr., feels like “Iron Man 4” to him.
“In a way it’s Cap 3 but for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it’s back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes.” Robert Downey Jr. told USA Today.
The film features a lot of heroes, but at the heart of it “Civil War” will still be a Captain America story. However, it’s not hard to see why RDJ would consider it an Iron Man story as well. Tony Stark will play a very important role in the conflict that drives the film.
Stark for all intents and purposes will be Captain America’s main adversary this time around. However Robert Downey Jr. was quick to point out that he didn’t go full villain for the role.
“If we’re going to go there, then we’ve got to save it for my swan song. I would still like to keep a general audience and mildly be in their favor somehow.” Downey Jr. added.
“Captain America: Civil War” opens everywhere on May 6, 2016
