Earlier today news broke the actress Pom Kliementoff had been cast in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” in a mystery role. Variety wrote up a report about the casting and there was a very interesting tidbit in there about Matthew McConaughey. According to their report, Matthew McConaughey passed on the villain role in the film.
“Marvel and Gunn wanted Matthew McConaughey to play the villain in the superhero sequel, but the actor recently passed, leaving the search for that part still in progress. Sources say that decision should be made in the coming weeks, as production is expected to begin in early 2016.” Variety’s report said.
This isn’t the first time Marvel and Matthew McConaughey’s name have come up in the same sentence. It was rumored months ago that Marvel was talking to the actor about playing Norman Osborn in the next Spider-Man film but that rumor was never confirmed.
Matthew McConaughey has said however that he’s open to doing a superhero movie if he can find the right script and character. Will he ever find the right fit? We’ll just have to wait and see.
