Now that Disney is steering the ship for Star Wars, fans can count on seeing a new film from the franchise every year for the foreseeable future. The Han Solo standalone is set for this year, with “Episode IX” set for next year, and it’s rumored that the Obi-Wan Kenobi film could be hitting theaters as soon as 2020.
With so much potential for spinoff films fans have wondered if Qui-Gon Jinn could enter the mix somehow. Qui-Gon made a big impression on fans, but his time on screen was limited as he didn’t survive “The Phantom Menace.”
Liam Neeson recently spoke to Yahoo Movies to promote his new film “The Commuter” and he was asked about a potential return to the franchise. He noted that no one has been in touch, but anything is possible.
“This is the first time I’m hearing of this. No one’s been in touch with me. I know in the Star Wars world anything is possible. In the first one, The Phantom Menace, I died but we know, you know, Jedi come back and stuff but no one’s been in touch. We’ll see.”
It seems that Qui-Gon’s mentorship was a big part of Obi-Wan’s story, but fans only saw the two work together in one film.
With the opportunity to bring Qui-Gon back as a force ghost it would be nice to see Neeson make an appearance in the Obi-Wan spinoff, as he seems to be open to returning.
