When “The Flash” returns for season 4 in the fall, Barry Allen will still be trapped in the Speed Force, and Team Flash will be trying to find a way to break him out. As we’ve seen in the past with other Speed Force prisoners such as Wally West and Jay Garrick, a speedster can become broken after they’re forced to relive their most painful moments while they’re trapped.

There will be a six month time jump between “The Flash” season 3 finale and the season 4 premiere, and Grant Gustin says that Barry Allen will not be the same man after spending six months in the Speed Force.

“The way I see it is, time is non-linear and everything is happening at once in the Speed Force,” Gustin tells EW. “In some ways he’s had an awakening and he’s had a rebirth. Our first episode is called ‘Reborn,’ and it is a rebirth for Barry, but he’s kind of scrambled, too, because he’s experienced so much so quick over the course of six months, even though for him it was an eternity. He’s not Barry when we see him for the first time.”

With the first episode of the season being titled “The Flash Reborn” it should be interesting to see exactly how Barry has changed after going through this rebirth.

Luckily for him he won’t have to worry about facing off against a speedster in season 4, and you can get more on that here.

“The Flash” season 4 will premiere on Tuesday, October 10.

Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry’s life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with super-speed and making him the fastest man alive — The Flash. But when Barry used his extraordinary abilities to travel back in time and save his mother’s life, he inadvertently created an alternate timeline known as Flashpoint; a phenomenon that gave birth to the villainous speed god known as Savitar, and changed the lives of Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) and Wally West (Keiyan Lonsdale) forever.

With the help of his adoptive father, Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), his lifelong best friend and love interest Iris West (Candice Patton), and his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs — Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), C.S.I Julian Albert (Tom Felton), and an Earth-19 novelist named H.R. Wells (Tom Cavanaugh) — Barry continues to protect the people of Central City from the meta-humans that threaten it.
