Before Marvel signed a deal with Sony, Sony had big plans for the Spider-Man universe on the big screen. One of the biggest announcements was that they would be making a Sinister Six film but that plan seems to have been scrapped now, or has it?
Director Drew Goddard recently spoke to i09.com about the film and his plan for it. In the interview Goddard seemed very optimistic that it could happen down the line.
“My vision of that movie was a summer annual. So you didn’t have to worry about continuity. It was just, ‘We take Peter, put him on an adventure, we put him back in his life.’ I intentionally wanted a movie that didn’t have to worry about mythology and continuity. It was important to me to make a movie that could stand on its own. So the good news is, you know, [laughs], it slots in very well to any plan anybody ever wants. We just need to let a couple years go by, I think.”
When the film was announced it was unclear how much presence Spider-Man would have had in the movie which made a lot of people nervous. Goddard went on to say that the movie was very much “a Spider-Man movie.”
“It was the giant, epic Spider-Man movie of my dreams.” Goddard said.
Drew Goddard has worked on both seasons of “Daredevil” so he’s definitely on Marvel’s radar. Whether they bring him in to make the “epic Spider-Man movie” of his dreams remains to be seen. But let’s hope it happens.
