Crossover films and shared cinematic universes are all the rage right now. Everyone is trying to do what Marvel does with the MCU and it’s not hard to see why. One of the big rumors that’s been going around for months now is that FOX wants to do a X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover film. Director Bryan Singer recently confirmed to Yahoo! Movies that the idea is indeed being talked about.
“Those ideas are in play. That would be a natural match-up because they’re both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it.” Singer said.
“It deals with time. That’s all I’m going to say.” he added
Time travel would have to come into play somehow to unite the two teams as the Fantastic Four reboot is set in modern times wheras the X-Men film continuity will be set in the 80s when the next film premieres. Although it seems to still very much be in the development stage, recent rumors suggested the crossover film could happen as early as 2018.
