Next year Fox will release three movies set inside the X-Men film universe with “The New Mutants,” “Deadpool 2” and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.” Fox previously tried to adapt the “Dark Phoenix” storyline in the 2006 film “X-Men: The Last Stand” but it wasn’t well received by the fans.
In the film (11 year old spoilers ahead) Jean Grey ended up killing fellow X-Men members Cyclops and Professor X, and now it’s rumored that the Sophie Turner version of Jean Grey could be killing off a big character in “Dark Phoenix.”
That Hashtag Show reports that a source has told them director Simon Kingberg intends to show just how powerful Jean Grey is by using her power to take one of the characters out of the franchise.
At this point rumored names who could be on the chopping block include Magneto, Professor X, Beast and Mystique.
The idea is to have Jean’s powers become too much for her, and then have her impale one of the characters after she loses control.
The report also claims that more information will be released in the coming weeks that will help fans narrow down which character is getting the axe.
All four of those characters have appeared throughout various films in the X-Men movie universe, and the current iterations of Professor X, Magneto, Beast and Mystique have been with the franchise since “X-Men: First Class.”
Who do you think will end up exiting the franchise? Sound off in the comments below.
