Arrow’s Suicide Squad Was A Test For The Movie

Fans were thrilled to see the Suicide Squad on TV when a version of the group was introduced on “Arrow.” The show’s version of the Suicide Squad teamed up a few times, but characters such as Deadshot were written out of the show as Warner Bros. started to put the wheels in motion for the film.

Producer Greg Berlanti recently spoke to Vulture and he insinuated that the Suicide Squad was given a test run on “Arrow” so the studio could test the group out for a potential film.

“They said to us a year and a half before they started developing Suicide Squad, “Will you guys put [a version of] the Suicide Squad in your show? Because we want to have it as a film at some point.” It also happened with Geoff when Geoff and Andrew [Kreisberg] and I were creating Flash. They were both really huge fans of Cisco Ramon, [also known as] Vibe,18 and had written a Vibe comic [in 2013] to try and bring him back. They said, “Could we please have Vibe on the show?”

We all know how things turned out. “Suicide Squad” was released in August and it was released to mixed reviews from critics, but it’s been a big hit at the box office.

Given the film’s success at the box office, and the fact that Amanda Waller is dead in the CW universe, it seems unlikely that we’ll be seeing a new version of the Suicide Squad on TV in the near future.

It’s unfortunate that the film version of Task Force X can’t co-exist with a television version, but you can’t always get what you want. At least Superman is coming to “Supergirl” so that’s something to be excited about, right?
