It’s been pretty well documented that Jared Leto went very deep into The Joker persona to try and nail the character for “Suicide Squad.” Quite a few stories have come out since filming wrapped about how Jared Leto gave his cast mates a rat as a pet and never broke character.

Producer Charles Roven recently spoke to Collider and he revealed a lot of juicy details about “Suicide Squad” and what we can expect from the film. When talking about how dedicated Leto was to The Joker character, Roven says that Leto isolated himself while he wasn’t filming scenes.

“Look, you know, it was different, it was fun. The group first wasn’t sure because the AD’s had to call him ‘Mr. J’ to get him to come to the set [laughs]. And he did in many ways isolate himself from the rest of the group, but that’s really what his character was, the purpose of his character in many ways, other than when he was with Harley or trying to get Harley. It was very entertaining, it was fuel for a lot of good sport and a lot of laughs, and his isolation bonded the squad, and we wanted the squad bonded.” Charles Roven told Collider.

It’s not hard to understand why Jared Leto would get so into the character. He’s had a huge amount of pressure on him since day one. The last man to play The Joker on the big screen was Heath Ledger and fans are still very attached to his performance. Leto will inevitably end up being compared to Ledger’s Joker which is unfortunate and unfair, but also unavoidable.

Either way the curiousity that’s been created by the stories about Jared Leto’s Joker have certainly created interest in “Suicide Squad.” We’ll all find out if his performance lives up to the hype when the film opens on August 5, 2016.
