Last year’s four way “Arroverse” crossover was massive, and the powers that be went out of their way to top all of the crossovers that came before it.
This year the annual crossover will introduce Batwoman and Gotham City, but DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow” will not be included.
Fans were understandably disappointed when it was revealed that the Legends won’t be part of the crossover this year, but luckily their absence will give the team more time to do their own things.
Over the last few years “Legends” has thrown the rule book out the window and developed its own tone.
At San Diego Comic Con, Cinema Blend spoke to executive producer Keto Shimizu, and he noted that at this point it’s becoming harder and harder for the “Legends” to jump back into the “Arrowverse.”
“I mean, all I can say is for us, that means we get sort of more story to ourselves, which we’re totally happy doing. And tonally, we are so different from those other shows at this point, it’s hard to jump back into that world with the other Arrow-verse shows. And we did it last year, and it was of course this gargantuan production and pre-production. It was crazy. For four shows to do that again, and to try and make it bigger than last time, I just don’t think it’s possible. I think the crossovers are going to be a lot different in general than what we’ve seen, and certainly our absence will be felt, because they are gonna miss us for sure. [laughs] But you know, I think we feel kind of liberated by it.”
Even though the Legends will be missed in this year’s “Arrowverse” crossover, it’s safe to say that with John Constantine joining the show as a series regular in season 4, things are only going to get weirder on “Legends of Tomorrow.”
