Over the past few months there’s been a lot of rumors and speculation circulating in regards to Ben Affleck’s status as Batman.
Affleck himself didn’t make things much better when he recently told USA Today that he’s not confirmed for “The Batman” which is set to be directed by Matt Reeves. Instead Affleck said the film is “something I’m contemplating.” He then followed up by saying that he’s trying to find a “cool way” to leave the role.
“You don’t do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it,” Affleck said.
It’s been rumored for months that Ben Affleck wants out, and his latest quotes aren’t doing much to convince people otherwise.
On a recent episode of the Jon Campea Show, Jon claimed that one of his sources has been saying since the beginning of the year that behind the scenes Affleck has all but officially left the role.
Campea goes on to say that he confirmed with the same source that Matt Reeves already has another actor in mind to play Batman in “The Batman” and that actor is Jake Gyllenhaal.
How would this work if Gyllenhaal does replace Affleck? Apparently the film will either be set outside the DCEU like the upcoming Joker standalone, or it could be set before the events of “Batman v Superman” to show the adventures of a younger Batman.
Campea noted that Gyllenhaal’s involvement has not been confirmed so him joining the film is far from a lock.
Matt Reeves has said he has a trilogy in mind for Batman, so we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for The Dark Knight on the big screen.
