Hugh Jackman just spent the past 17 years playing Wolverine but fans are now being forced to say goodbye to him as he’s confirmed that “Logan” is his last X-Men film. Those of you that have seen “Logan” likely think that Hugh went on a high note and those of you who haven’t seen it, well, let’s just say you’re going to enjoy it.
Jackman has had a wild run as Wolverine, but it almost came to an end after “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” was released. Hugh recently spoke to EW and he admitted that he seriously considered giving up the role after the film was released.
“I couldn’t see what the next thing was,” Jackman said. “I don’t know what else to do. I don’t know where to go.”
Although the film was universally panned by critics and fans alike, Jackman admitted that it wasn’t the fan reaction that bothered him. According to Hugh he just wanted to find a new way to represent Wolverine on screen.
“I knew people liked the character. Not all the fans like that first Wolverine,” Jackman said. “They’re very vocal with me. Good or bad, they tell me. It’s kind of a family I have. ‘What were you thinking?! I love you, man, but that was….’”
In the end he returned to the role and Hugh noted that Darren Aronofsky was the one who inspired him to pick the claws back up. At one point Darren was set to direct “The Wolverine” and he gave Jackman a whole new perspective on the character.
It’s a good thing Darren convinced Hugh to return, because if he didn’t, we wouldn’t have “Logan.” The film is in theaters now and from someone who has already seen it, if you’re a Wolverine fan on any level, I highly recommend that you hit the theater ASAP to check it out.
