Spider-Man joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016 when he became a part of Team Iron Man in “Captain America: Civil War.” Fans are thrilled that Peter Parker is now part of the MCU, but his on screen future with Marvel has been a hot topic as of late after Sony executive Amy Pascall said the following about Spider-Man at CinemaCon last month:

“One of the things that I think is so amazing about this experience is that you don’t have studios deciding to work together to make a film very often. In fact it may never happen again, after we do the sequel.”

Of course the thought of Spider-Man leaving the MCU to go back to Sony-land stings a little bit, and it hurts even more knowing that Sony is planning spinoff films for Venom along with Silver Sable and Black Cat which reportedly won’t be connected to the MCU at all.

Spider-Man’s future with the MCU is in doubt it seems, but he’s at least been confirmed for a few more movies.

It’s a given that Spider-Man will appear in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and the sequel, and he’s also been confirmed for “Avengers: Infinity War” but Marvel honcho Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Spider-Man will indeed be a part of the untitled “Avengers 4.”

“That’s as far as it goes for now,” Feige told THR.

Feige was also asked about the Spider-Man spinoff films Sony is planning and he responded with the following when asked why Marvel isn’t involved with the projects:

“We had a very particular plan about Spidey himself,” Feige explained.

Marvel Studios has done well by Spider-Man, and they will continue to do so over the course of the films he’s been confirmed for, but sadly it seems like Spidey may be living on borrowed time in the MCU.

Here’s to hoping Sony makes the right call when the time comes.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” will swing into theaters on July 7, 2017.
