All sorts of Spider-Man news has been hitting the Internet lately as Spidey is set to make his big MCU debut in “Captain America: Civil War” on May 6. Sony recently made a huge announcement when they revealed that the title for Spider-Man’s next standalone film will be “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” There have also been a lot of rumors floating around in regards to who might play the villain in the film, and now Michael Keaton’s name is being thrown into the mix as well.
According to Variety, Michael Keaton is in very early talks to play a villain in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Plot details are being kept under wraps so it’s not known what role he’s up for, but Keaton is no stranger to comic book films as he’s played Batman twice on the big screen.
Marvel hasn’t given any indication as to who the main villain will be, but it was recently reported by Birth.Movies.Death that The Vulture will be making an appearance in the film. However, it’s just a rumor at this point, and the rumor is that The Vulture’s role will not be a main villain role.
Kevin Feige has said in the past that the creative team is focused on using new villains this time around and The Vulture certainly fits that description. Vulture’s name has been attached to Spider-Man movies for years but he has yet to make an appearance in one. Sam Raimi originally planned to use him in his fourth Spider-Man film, but the movie never happened.
It remains to be seen if Keaton will be playing The Vulture, or any other villain in the film for that matter, but it’s hard to deny that he looks like he would make a great Adrian Toomes. If Michael Keaton does join the cast he will be joining Tom Holland who plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Marisa Tomei who’s playing Aunt May and Zendaya who is playing a character named Michelle.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” swings into theaters on July 7, 2017.
