A few years ago Marvel announced an Inhumans movie, but that movie disappeared from their release schedule a while back. Since then fans have been wondering what the deal is, and now finally there’s some news.
Today “Marvel’s The Inhumans” was announced, and it will be a new television series that airs on ABC. However, Marvel is doing something very unique for the release. The first two episodes of the series will run exclusively on IMAX screens for two weeks in September of 2017 before the show premieres on ABC for a weekly run.
“This first-of-its-kind multi-platform production, distribution and marketing agreement brings together Marvel Television’s unique brand of entertainment, ABC’s unparalleled audience and IMAX’s brand and global fanboy demographic,” said IMAX CEO, Rich Gelfond. “It also takes our decades-long relationship with The Walt Disney Company to a whole new level, jointly breaking new ground in the industry. We are confident our exhibition partners will be excited to work with us on this innovative launch of a series across the IMAX network.”
Inhumans were first introduced into the MCU during season 2 of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and they’ve been an integral part of the show ever since. It seems to make perfect sense for “Marvel’s The Inhumans” to air on ABC, a network that “S.H.I.E.L.D.” calls home.
According to Marvel’s official announcement, the series will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.
“This unprecedented alliance represents a bold, innovative approach to launching great TV content for a worldwide audience,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney|ABC Television Group. “It highlights Disney|ABC’s unrelenting commitment to finding new and creative ways to showcasing our very best programming and increasing global engagement and reach.”
