“Game of Thrones” is set to return in July, and anticipation for the premiere is at an all time high. The season 6 finale set up the show’s endgame in a big way, and now all of the pieces are falling into place.
The show has millions of diehard fans all over the world, but unfortunately, its days are numbered. There are only two seasons left of “Game of Thrones” and HBO is already looking toward the future in regards to possible spinoff shows.
THR reports that HBO is currently developing four different “Game of Thrones” spinoff shows to continue the franchise once the current show ends. Four different writers have been hired and HBO is working with George R.R. Martin to develop the potential shows.
The four writers are Max Borenstein; Jane Goldman and Martin; Brian Helgeland; and Carly Wray. Each writer has been given the task of writing a show based in a different time period within the “Game of Thrones” universe. That means at this point there’s no confirmation as to whether or not the potential shows could be prequels of sequels.
As of right now there’s no timetable for the shows to go into production, as HBO is simply planning on evaluating the scripts after they are done then they plan to make a decision.
“Game of Thrones” is the most valuable franchise in HBO history, so it’s certainly not hard to see why they would want to keep the momentum going.
With “Game of Thrones” set to end in 2018, it’s likely that HBO will be making some sort of decision regarding the future of the franchise in the coming months.
