This year’s four way “Arrowverse” crossover is quickly approaching, and the CW recently released a massive stash of photos from all four episodes. The photos have only served to build up more hype for the highly anticipated crossover, as they show the West-Allen wedding, and the heroes uniting to take on their evil doppelgangers.
When the crossover was first announced, fans had a lot of questions in regards to how the doppelganger situation would work out. Now we know that Melissa Benoist will be playing Overgirl, Stephen Amell will be playing his own evil doppelganger, and Tom Cavanagh will be stepping back into a villain role for the crossover.
In season 1 of “The Flash” it was revealed that the person who Team Flash thought was Harrison Wells was actually Eobard Thawne in the body of Harrison Wells. Even though Eddie Thawne tried to eliminate him from the timeline, Eobard continued to appear in shows throughout the “Arrowverse” played by Matt Letscher.
Despite the fact that Matt Letscher doesn’t seem to be appearing in the crossover, it does look like we’ll be seeing some version of Eobard Thawne played by Tom Cavanagh.
The official photos which were recently released list Tom Cavanagh as playing “Dark Flash/Thawne.”
Now whether this means Thawne ended up in a similar situation on Earth-X where he had to inhabit the body of Harrison Wells, or he just looks like Wells on Earth-X for some reason remains to be seen.
One way or another it seems that the crossover is setting up for another interesting twist in regards to Thawne. It’s interesting that the other actors are playing their own doppelgangers, but Grant Gustin isn’t, so hopefully we’ll be getting some sort of explanation as to how this iteration of Thawne managed to come into power on Earth-X.
