Why J.J. Abrams Regrets Turning Down The Chance To Direct Episode VIII

J.J. Abrams is receiving rave reviews for what he did with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Abrams managed to give fans the dose of nostalgia they’ve been looking for but he also introduced plenty of new elements and characters into the mix. J.J. won’t be returning to direct Episode VIII as Rian Johnson is set to take the helm. But lifelong friend and actor Greg Grunberg recently revealed that J.J. regrets turning down the chance to make the film.

“He read it and said something he never, ever says. He said: ‘It’s so good, I wish I were making it.’ He may have said something one time on ‘Lost,’ with Damon [Lindelof, the co-creator]. But I never hear him express regret like that.” Grunberg told The Washington Post.

Well in a weird way, Grunberg’s words are certainly encouraging aren’t they? J.J. may have handed the reigns over to Rian Johnson but the fact that Abrams is praising the script for Episode VIII this early into development is a good sign. But we’re going to have to wait until May 26, 2017 to find out what Johnson has in store for the Star Wars saga.
