After Oliver Queen was outed as the Green Arrow in the season 6 premiere, he decided to pass the Green Arrow mantle onto Diggle, and Diggle graciously accepted the offer. Unfortunately Oliver didn’t know that Diggle has been dealing with some nerve damage in his arm after taking shrapnel from the explosion on Lian Yu, and the nerve damage has had a big impact on his performance in the field.
Taking on the Green Arrow mantle and leading Team Arrow is a big responsibility, and it’s not one that Diggle has taken lightly. In order to keep up with his teammates, Diggle has been secretly using a drug which was revealed this week to be an experimental steroid.
Diggle met with the leader of the group who has been distributing the drug, who turned out to be Team Arrow’s next target, Richard Dragon.
After hesitating to take Dragon down during a battle with Team Arrow, Diggle was forced to make a choice.
During a battle later in the episode, Team Arrow went after Dragon again, and the drug supply was destroyed in a fire.
He told his teammates and his wife Lyla about the tremor in his arm, and the fact that he had been taking an experimental drug to fix it. The team reacted surprisingly well, and Curtis offered to help him come up with some sort of technology that could fix his problem.
The episode ended with Diggle looking at the Green Arrow suit as his arm trembled.
Will Curtis be able to develop some tech to fix John’s condition? That remains to be seen, but his big secret is out, so it will be interesting to see what direction Diggle’s story arc takes from here.
