When “Arrow” first premiered on the CW in 2012, it was a very dark and grounded show. The show was often compared to Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy because it depicted a hero in a world not unlike our own, but when “The Flash” joined the CW lineup, everything changed.

“The Flash” and “Arrow” exist in the same universe, so the introduction of metahumans and humor had an impact on “Arrow.” After “The Flash” took off, the writers tried to make “Arrow” a little bit lighter in season 4, but the approach didn’t work out so well, and many fans felt that the show went off the rails during season 4 for a number of reasons.
After sitting through a few episodes of “Arrow” season 5, it became very clear that the show had returned to its roots, and by the time it ended the show had delivered what many fans consider to be the best season yet.
The response to “Arrow” season 5 was overwhelmingly positive, and during the Comic Con panel on Saturday executive producer Marc Guggenheim assured fans that they’ll be seeing more of the elements that they love about “Arrow” in season 6.
“We always said that season 5 would end as a culmination not just of season 5, but of the first five years of the show and the last 10 years of Oliver’s life,” he said via EW. “We’re going to double down with the things that resonated with people in season 5 — the dark, gritty, really grounded storytelling, but we are going to see a really different Oliver Queen. We’re looking forward to telling some very different kinds of stories with Oliver.”
Season 5 is going to be hard to top, but if the new trailer for season 6 is any indication, it looks like season 6 could be a worthy follow up.
“Arrow” will return on Thursday, October 12.
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. He returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs done by his family and fighting injustice.
As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer-science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Deputy Mayor Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum), and his new recruits, street-savvy Rene Ramirez (Rick Gonzalez) and meta-human Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy).
Oliver has finally solidified and strengthened his crime-fighting team only to have it threatened when unexpected enemies from his past return to Star City, forcing Oliver to rethink his relationship with each member of his “family”.
