The Star Wars film universe is set to expand in a big way over the next few years, and the Han Solo standalone film recently hit a big roadblock. Directors Chris Lord and Phil Miller were reportedly fired from the film due to creative differences, and the change sent everyone into a frenzy.

There’s been a lot of talk about who could be replacing Lord and Miller on the film, and Ron Howard’s name has been coming up frequently ever since the news broke.

Well now The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the legendary director is set to take over for Miller and Lord as he’s signed on to direct the film. Disney and Lucasfilm are expected to make an official announcement at some point today.

According to the report, Ron Howard is set to meet with the cast soon to ease their worries about the production, and Howard will also be going over a rough edit of the film as he decides what the movie needs.

Originally the movie was set to shoot for another three and a half weeks with five weeks of reshoots after.

Howard once revealed that George Lucas approached him about directing “The Phantom Menace” and looking back he’s probably not too upset that he missed out on the film. But Howard is now stepping into the Star Wars universe, so it should be interesting to see how the film turns out with him at the helm.
