The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a huge money maker for Disney, but fans have been hoping to see a more complete MCU for quite some time. Marvel Studios has done a great job with the characters they have, but there’s a strong desire from fans to see the X-Men and the Fantastic Four interact with The Avengers and company.

A recent report claiming that Fox is in negotiations with Disney about potentially selling most of the company has given hope to the idea of all the Marvel characters coming together, but it was originally reported that the talks between the two parties had ended.

However, CNBC has released a follow up report saying that “pencils aren’t down” regarding the potential sale according to David Faber who broke the news from the original report.

It was noted that even though the two companies aren’t engaged in conversations at this very moment, the idea of Disney acquiring Fox has not been abandoned.

It’s also worth noting that shares for Disney and Fox both jumped up after the news of a potential sale surfaced.

With Disney gearing up to launch their own streaming service, the company wants to create new original content for the service, so having the X-Men and Fantastic Four in play would give them more opportunities to do so.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but it’s worth noting that Sony’s deal to share Spider-Man with Marvel went through several different stages of negotiations where it was on and off.
