The Next X-Men Movies Won’t Focus On Professor X And Magneto

The relationship between Charles Xavier and Magneto is a very vital part of the X-Men mythos and it has been the heart of the film series since day one. Every main X-Men title has focused on a story built around their relationship, but it looks like the film series will be moving in a different direction.

There’s no denying that the focus on the Magneto/Xavier relationship can be a little overbearing at times. It could be argued that it was one of the things that seemed to weigh “Apocalypse” down as Apocalypse himself was at points treated as a side character as Charles tried to convince Eric to come back from the dark side.

One way or another producer Lauren Shuler Donner told Vanity Fair that,“We cannot, once again, explore the Erik/Charles dynamic,” although she did admit Xavier and Magneto are “always essential” to the story. She also added that she feels “there are other stories to tell.”

The X-Men films series has had its fair share of hits and misses as well. Although “Apocalypse” was panned the minds behind the X-Men films will be giving it another shot with the next film which is currently under the working title “Supernova.”

It’s believed that the movie will focus on the Dark Phoenix storyline which Fox already got wrong in “X-Men: The Last Stand.” But it can’t hurt to try again right?

With Hugh Jackman hanging up the claws and Xavier and Magneto set to take a backseat, it should be interesting to see where the series goes from here. There are obviously endless possibilities thanks to the abundance of characters in the X-Men universe, and one can’t help but wonder who will be stepping into the spotlight.

“Logan” is in theaters now.
