“X-Men: Dark Phoenix” is set to hit theaters next year, and today the first photos from the film were officially released.
Fans got their first look at Sophie Turner’s Dark Phoenix, and now EW has released even more photos from the film.
It’s been rumored that a major character could be killed off in the film, and James McAvoy recently added fuel to the fire when he said that “Dark Phoenix” will feature, “a lot of sacrifice and a lot of suffering.”
One of the new photos seems to indicate that someone will indeed be killed off as it shows four characters holding umbrellas in the rain while dressed in black, presumably while at a funeral.
According to EW, the characters in the photo are Charles (James McAvoy), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Storm (Alexandra Shipp) so it appears that they’re safe for now.
It’s been rumored that Magneto, Professor-X, Beast or Mystique could be killed off, but it doesn’t look like Professor-X is the one that the team will be losing.
In any case, Jennifer Lawrence is teasing that this will be the darkest X-Men film to date.
“I would call Dark Phoenix a drama,” says Lawrence. “We have really great action scenes and we go to space like within the first five minutes of the movie. So it’s definitely exciting but emotionally all these characters are taking the biggest, most extreme dives than they have in the whole series.”
“X-Men: Dark Phoenix” opens in theaters in November of 2018.
