A few years ago Ben Affleck seemed thrilled to take on the role of Batman when he first put on the cape and cowl for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” but now his enthusiasm for the DCEU seems to fading.

Ben was originally set to write, direct and produce his own Batman film, but he stepped down as the director, and the new director Matt Reeves has come up with a new story, and it’s not known how much of Affleck’s version will be used in the movie.

Affleck recently confirmed that he’s not signed on for the Batman standalone and that the movie is film is “something I’m contemplating.” In reference to his future as Batman he also said, “You don’t do it forever, so I want to find a graceful and cool way to segue out of it.”

It was recently reported that director Matt Reeves has his eyes on Jake Gyllenhaal for a replacement if Affleck does indeed step down, and now it looks like another Hollywood star is throwing his name into the mix.

Radar Online is reporting that former “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm has his sights set on the Batman film, and he’s “gunning hard for the role.”

When it comes to Hamm’s relationship with Affleck, a source claims, “They enjoyed working together (on The Town) and have been on good terms ever since. But Jon knows Ben has faced some criticism over Batman v Superman and Justice League, and frankly thinks he’d be better suited for the job. This is business for Jon — not personal.”

Hamm is said to be ready to jump into the role and it’s also being reported that he’s been “carefully courting” director Matt Reeves.

Reeves was a big fan of “Mad Men” and thinks Hamm is charming so it could potentially be a good fit.

It’s still being reported that Jake Gyllenhaal is someone Reeves is considering, but it’s also worth noting that Hamm is closer in look and age to Affleck so the transition could be a little smoother if Hamm lands the role.

The future of the Batman role seems to be up in the air at best right now, but Hamm seems to be serious about pursuing the cape and cowl, and the source claimed he, “doesn’t care whose toes he has to tread on to get there.”
