It Doesn’t Look Like Deadpool Will Be Crossing Over With The X-Men Films In The Near Future

“Deadpool” is a hit and now Fox has two hit comic book franchises that exist in the same universe. Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead appeared in “Deadpool” so naturally fans are wondering when Deadpool will appear in one of the X-Men films.

But writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recently spoke to Rodrigo Perez during an interview for The Playlist and indicated that it won’t happen soon. They noted that one of the issues is that they hope to see Deadpool get another solo film before teaming up with the X-Men. The other issue is that “Deadpool” takes place 3 decades removed from the current X-Men timeline.

“The second issue at hand is the ‘X-Men’ universe timeline. ‘The X-Men’ series is currently set in the 1980s, ‘Deadpool,’ is set three decades later in our present day. It’s a timeline that will eventually catch up I would imagine,” Wernick said. “But [‘X-Men’ producer] Simon [Kingberg’s] more the keeper of that universe and maybe we’ll see more X-Men playing in Deadpool’s sandbox and probably Deadpool playing in their sandbox at some point.” Reese said.

A Deadpool/X-Men crossover film is inevitable at this point. But as Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick gracefully pointed out, the X-Men films have to somehow return to the present and it remains to be seen when that might happen.
