Ant-Man Star Teases The Multiverse For The MCU

“Avengers: Infinity War” is set to hit theaters next year, and now that the first trailer has been released, hype for the film is at an all time high. “Infinity War” and “Avengers 4” will change the status quo for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a big way, and it sounds like “Ant-Man and the Wasp” will also have a huge impact on the MCU going forward.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp” star Evangeline Lilly recently spoke to to Vanity Fair about her experience working on “Infinity War” and she compared the direction of the film to “Lost” season 4.

“When I heard about Infinity War and the direction that they’re heading, I did have this moment of realizing, oh, wow, there’s a bit of a déjà vu for me with the Lost franchise,” Lilly said. “We are hitting that [Lost] Season 4 space where everything’s about to shift, and you’re about to lose the solid ground underneath you. And [Ant-Man and the Wasp], of course, will play a part in that.”

She also talked about how the quantum realm will be explored in “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and she teased that the film will open up the door for the MCU to play with the idea of a multiverse.

“Those characters are experts in the quantum realm,” Lilly continued. “In Ant-Man and the Wasp, they are trying everything in their power to safely enter the quantum realm and return back from it because they have evidence from the first film that Scott Lang was able to do that. If he can do it, why can’t we? If we do succeed in Ant-Man and the Wasp, then that does open a whole entire new multi-verse to enter into and play around in. I’m not the story creator, so I can’t tell you what they’re going to do with that. But I definitely see the potential there.”

As she noted, she doesn’t know how much time Marvel will dedicate to exploring the idea of a multiverse, but introducing the concept into the MCU could certainly make for some interesting stories.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp” will arrive in theaters on July 6, 2018.
