“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” might not be getting good reviews from critics, but it made a massive amount of money over the weekend. The film opened to the tune of $424 million at the worldwide box office which was the 4th biggest opening of all time and the biggest opening ever for a superhero movie.

There’s no denying that this film has been a juggernaut at the box office. But with the mixed response the movie has received the true test will be how the film performs going forward. According to Warner Bros. domestic distribution chief Jeff Goldstein, the film is already getting repeat business.

“There is no question this is an extraordinary achievement. Clearly, audiences have embraced it and we are already seeing repeat business. It’s just fun. Often, there’s a disconnect between critics and audiences. It doesn’t take itself seriously. It’s just an enjoyable afternoon at the movies.” Goldstein told THR.

Warner Bros. is now planning to go full speed ahead with their DC film universe. Over the next few years the studio will be releasing several superhero films including a Justice League movie which is set to start filming next month. The studio says they are very proud of what they’ve been able to accomplish with “Batman v Superman” because the movie plays a big role in the launching several more films.

“When you swing for the bleachers and connect, it’s a tremendous feeling. This felt like we were launching several films, so to come through like this makes all of us very proud.”
