“Thor: Ragnarok” hit theaters this week, and there’s been some major hype behind the film ever since the first trailer dropped. Fans immediately praised the tone of the new trailer, and it was clear from the very beginning that this new entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be a departure from Thor’s previous adventures.

“Ragnarok” is much more lighthearted compared to its predecessors, and Marvel decided to switch things up this time around by cutting Thor’s hair and destroying his hammer. It turns out that cutting Thor’s hair and destroying the hammer were actually suggestions that were made by Chris Hemsworth himself, and Kevin Smith indirectly influenced his suggestions.

Hemsworth recently spoke to Vanity Fair about the decision to move away from classic Thor in “Ragnarok” and he said that after he heard Kevin Smith bash the “Thor” franchise on a podcast, he was inspired to do something different.

“Hearing someone like Smith, who represents the fanboy world, was such a kick in the ass to change gears,” Hemsworth says. “We sort of had nothing to lose. People didn’t expect what we did with it this time around.”

Hemsworth also admitted that he didn’t always feel safe about his spot in the MCU.

“I thought maybe I might be in the first Avengers,” he explains. “But I never thought there’d be a second one. I didn’t look that comfortable on my first three films. I gotta say, recently, it felt more concrete. But before, it always felt like any minute, it all might be pulled out from under me.”

It seems that a shift in tone is exactly what Thor needed, as “Ragnarok” is getting rave reviews and it’s expected to dominate the box office this weekend.
