Spider-Man: Homecoming Writers Reveal Their Pitch To Replace The Daily Bugle

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” has been out for a few weeks now, and if you’re a Spider-Man fan then you’ve likely seen it by now. If you’ve seen it then you know that the Daily Bugle wasn’t a part of the film, but the writers did pitch an idea that would have updated the concept of Peter using Spider-Man’s image to make money.

Writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein recently spoke to Yahoo! Movies, and they revealed that they pitched an idea for Peter to use his YouTube videos of Spider-Man as a source of income.

“Peter has sort of a new version of his Daily Bugle, anonymously [posting] these YouTube videos of him doing various stunts as Spider-Man and also saving the day. And filming it with a GoPro camera and just racking up the money that he gets off the number of views that these videos get.”

Although we do see Peter watching YouTube videos of Spider-Man in the movie, that idea wasn’t really explored. However, Peter did still create a video diary to document the events that took place in “Civil War.”

“But it was also a priority to incorporate the events of Civil War in the beginning in the movie, so we thought we to combine those two ideas.”

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is in theaters now.

Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker returns home to live with his Aunt May. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine — distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero. Peter must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.
