It’s been a long wait, but “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is now in theaters. We’ve seen the film and have to say that if you are a Spider-Man fan then you will definitely not be disappointed.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is a breath of fresh air for Spider-Man movies, and even though Marvel Studios presented a fresh take on Spidey, they weren’t afraid to acknowledge the past. Warning: mild spoilers ahead.

In “Spider-Man: Homecoming” Spider-Man discovers that his suit is equipped with an advanced AI, similar to JARVIS, which is voiced by Jennifer Connelly. After calling her “suit lady” for a little while, Peter decides he should give her a name, and he considers calling her Liz, but after deciding that’s too weird, he settles on Karen.

Liz Allan is Peter’s love interest in the movie, and after Karen asks about Liz he gushes over her and confesses his crush. Karen then encourages Peter to tell Liz how he feels.

Later in the film Liz is in danger at the Washington Monument, and after Spider-Man saves her he hangs upside down and they come face to face. While Spider-Man is looking in Liz’s eyes, Karen tells him to kiss her in what appears to be a nod to that iconic kiss from Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man film. You know, this one:

Spider-Man and Liz Allan hold the pose for a moment, just long enough to convince you that the kiss might happen, but then Marvel Studios pushes the comic relief button to break up the scene.

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films are filled with some iconic moments, and one of the moments that fans often talk about is the train scene from “Spider-Man 2.”

After Doctor Octopus rips out the speed controls from a train loaded with passengers, Spider-Man is forced to find a way to stop the speeding train. You know the scene, it’s this one:

If you’ve seen the trailers for “Homecoming” then you’ve likely noticed there’s a scene that looks very similar which features Spider-Man using webs to hold a ferry together.

Even though the past 10 years have been kind of rough for Spidey’s cinematic career, the first two Sam Raimi films are still beloved by the fans, and Spider-Man fans will no doubt feel a little nostalgic during these scenes.
