New Rumor Reveals Possible Reason Why An Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie Hasn’t Been Announced

There are plenty of Star Wars fans out there who weren’t that fond of the prequels, but one thing that everyone seems to agree on is that Ewan McGregor did an excellent job as Obi-Wan Kenobi. With all the hype surrounding upcoming Star Wars standalone films such as “Rogue One” and the upcoming Han Solo film, fans have been hoping for some sort of announcement regarding an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie. Despite the demand from fans a movie has yet to be announced, and it looks there’s special reason why it hasn’t happened yet.

Anthony Breznican of Entertainment Weekly recently noted on the Rebel Force Radio podcast that Lucasfilm hasn’t moved forward with plans for an Obi-Wan standalone because there’s apparently more for him to do in the main sage.

“I have heard rumors that the one reason they haven’t moved sooner on Obi-Wan is that they’re not done with Obi-Wan quite yet in the Saga films. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see an Obi-Wan thing happen beyond Episode IX.”

Of course as Breznican said himself, this is only just a rumor at this point, but it’s certainly not hard to believe. Obi-Wan did play a small part in “The Force Awakens” after all.

During Rey’s force vision which she experienced after touching Luke’s lightsaber, Obi-Wan Kenobi can be heard talking to Rey as he says, “Rey, these are your first steps.” The voiceover was a mixture of Ewan McGregor’s voice, and old recordings of Alec Guinness.

How much involvement the Obi-Wan Kenobi character will have in “Episode VIII” and “Episode IX” remains to be seen, but there’s no shortage of fan theories out there. Many fans have subscribed to a popular theory that examines the possibility of Rey being a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but we’ll just have to wait and see how that plays out.

The speculation surrounding Rey’s lineage has been one of the most exciting things about the Star Wars revival, and if the rumors are true about Obi-Wan Kenobi, then it certainly seems that theories regarding Rey being a descendant of Kenobi shouldn’t be counted out just yet.

Ewan McGregor certainly hasn’t been shy about letting people know he’s interested in making an Obi-Wan standalone film. During a recent interview Ewan McGregor said he believes there’s a story to tell between “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope.”

““I’ve always thought there was a story to tell between my last one and Alec Guinness’ first one. It would be fun to film that story now I’m older. I’d be the right age. I’m forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them (laughs)!”
