Earlier this year the David Ayer directed “Suicide Squad” hit theaters, and the film earned $745 million worldwide. Now The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that David Ayer will be returning to the DCEU to direct “Gotham City Sirens.”

The film will focus on Gotham City’s female villains, and Margot Robbie is set to reprise her role as Harley Quinn. “Tomb Raider” remake and “Sherlock Holmes 3” writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet is set to pen the script. DC’s Geoff Johns and John Berg are also attached to the film as producers.

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn was a big hit with fans following the release of “Suicide Squad” and it’s been rumored for a while now that she would be returning for a female fronted DC film. Although Harley Quinn is the only character confirmed at the moment, the “Gotham City Sirens” comic series has featured characters such as Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Initial rumors also mentioned that the film could include Birds of Prey in some capacity.

There are currently several DC films that are set to be released over the next few years, and it sounds Warner Bros. could be adding a few more to their schedule sooner than later. THR also reports that a “Suicide Squad” sequel and a Deadshot spinoff film are also in development.

As of this writing “Gotham City Sirens” does not have a release date.
