Ewan McGregor On Which Story He Would Like To Tell In An Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie And More

Ewan McGregor had a nice little under the radar cameo in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and now everyone’s wondering if he’ll be a part of more films in the future. Collider recently caught up with McGregor and he was asked if he’s interested in playing taking the lead in an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film. He seemed very enthusiastic about the possibility of once again joining the Star Wars universe, and said that he would like to bridge the gap between “Return of the Sith” and “A New Hope.”

“I’d very much like to do one too. I think the story between Episode III and Episode IV, I think there’s a story there. I think that’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, if there is one. The one that bridges my Obi-Wan Kenobi and Alec’s Obi-Wan Kenobi because there’s a—I don’t know how long he’s in the desert there, but it’s got to be twenty or thirty years.”

It seems like the timing is definitely right for Ewan McGregor to return to the role of Obi-Wan. But has he had conversations with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy about Obi-Wan possibly getting his own movie?

“I’m not sure I’m at liberty to say, really, but I’m very interested in doing that. That would be great. Maybe there’s even a trilogy! (laughs)”

Based on the fact that he said he can’t say anything, it’s probably safe to assume that there have been at least some discussions. Hopefully there’s something behind his joke about a possible trilogy as well because let’s face it, that would be awesome. As far as the new films go, Ewan McGregor said that he loved “The Force Awakens” but there aren’t any plans to include him in the current trilogy.

“I don’t know anything about it. I’m really not in the picture with the Star Wars trilogy. As far as I know, I would be Alec Guinness by now, so I don’t know how that would work. I really don’t know and I haven’t had any discussions with anyone about it.

To play Obi-Wan Kenobi again would be something I would love to do in one of the spinoff movies. If that were to happen in one of their trilogies, I would be up for that, but I don’t know how that would happen. I’m sure some of the Star Wars fans would come up with an idea of how that could happen.”

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is hitting theaters this year, “Star Wars: Episode VIII” is hitting theaters next year and a Han Solo movie is also in the early stages of production. Disney is going to be releasing Star Wars films from now until the end of time so it’s likely we’ll see Obi-Wan back in the mix at some point, and the good news is that Ewan McGregor is down to return.
