Deadpool Has Become The Highest Grossing R-Rated Movie At The Worldwide Box Office

Everybody’s talking about the big box office haul that “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” took in over the weekend, meanwhile “Deadpool” is still breaking records. The film was already the highest grossing R-rated comic book film of all time, but now it’s the highest grossing R-rated film ever at the worldwide box office.

This past weekend the total worldwide gross for the film reached $745.9 million beating out the previous record held by “The Matrix Reloaded” with $742 million. However “Deadpool” still sits in third place when it comes to domestic totals for R-rated movies. The film has brought in $349 million domestically and it sits right behind “American Sniper” with $350 million in the number 2 spot, and “Passion of the Christ” which is on top with $370 million.

Comic book movies have dominated the box office so far this year despite the fact that some people feel superhero fatigue is setting in on moviegoers. There are still several big films to go with “Captain America: Civil War” and “X-Men: Apocalypse” in May. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” will then hit the big screen in June. “Suicide Squad” is coming to theaters in August and “Doctor Strange” will arrive in November. Like we were saying, it’s a big year for comic book movies.

Both “Deadpool” and “Batman v Superman” are breaking records, but there’s still a long way to go. Which movie to do you think will bring in the biggest box office haul this year? Sound off in the comments below.
