Spider-Man is set to have a big summer, as the wall crawler will be starring in his very first MCU standalone film in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” which will premiere in July. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is certainly all the rage right now, but he’s not the only Spider-Man character who will be getting the spotlight over the next few years.

Sony has big plans for their Spider-Man film universe and the studio recently announced that Tom Hardy will be playing Eddie Brock in the Venom standalone movie. The studio also has plans for a Black Cat and Silver Sable movie, and the film has just moved one step closer to becoming a reality.

Gina Prince-Bythewood, who wrote and directed “The Secret Life of Bees” will be directing the film according to The Hollywood Reporter, and the film will reportedly be titled “Silver & Black.”

Writer Chris Yost, who worked on “Thor: Ragnarok” is working on the recent draft. Lisa Joy, the co-creator of HBO’s “Westworld” also worked on the script. Amy Pascal and Matt Tolmach are attached as producers and Sony plans to start filming in the fall.

Sony’s recent announcements regarding their upcoming Spider-Man films have fans all around the world very confused due to the fact that they’ve confirmed that the films will not be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe or Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

The studio has clearly been hoping to get in on the shared universe game for quite some time now, as they originally announced plans for a Sinister Six film during Andrew Garfield’s run as Spidey, but those plans were dropped when Sony made a deal with Marvel.

With Tom Hardy on board to star in the Venom film it certainly seems like Sony means business this time around, so it should be interesting to see how the universe develops going forward.
