“Captain America: Civil War” changed the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a big way. It divided the Avengers, and it left the future of many heroes in question. One hero who seems to have his future shrouded inmystery is Steve Rogers. At the end of the film, Tony Stark told Rogers that his iconic Captain America shield didn’t belong to him, and Rogers dropped the shield before parting ways with a broken down Tony Stark.
During an interview they did earlier this year, “Captain America: Civil War” directors the Russo Brothers, confirmed that Steve Rogers dropping the shield was a symbolic gesture.
“I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity,” said Joe. “[It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”
That has fans wondering who may become the next Captain America in the MCU, and there are plenty of people out there hoping to see Bucky Barnes pick up the shield. Barnes has taken over the mantle of Captain America in the comics, and now Sebastian Stan has a very important item that could signal a change for Bucky Barnes in the MCU.
Sebastian Stan recently took to Instagram to show off his new shield and to say that it “will come in handy.” The shield will look very familiar to fans, and you can check it out below.
It remains to be seen if Bucky will be taking on the mantle of Captain America in the MCU, but one thing’s for sure, Sebastian Stan knows how to get people talking.
