Warner Bros. and DC have been doing some big things in the film world over the past few years as they’ve expanded the DCEU. But it was recently revealed that the movie studio wants to create a Joker origin film which will stand on its own, and some big names are involved.

“The Hangover” director Todd Phillips is attached to direct the origin film, and Martin Scorsese is attached as a producer. Now The Hollywood Reporter is hoping that Scorsese’s involvement will lead to a big name actor signing on.

According to the report, studio execs have their eyes on Leonardo DiCaprio for the lead role, but as of right now there’s no offer on the table for DiCaprio, and it’s also being reported that Martin Scorsese’s deal isn’t quite done yet.

DiCaprio and Scorsese have worked on several films together, and the studio seems to be interested in making more Oscar worthy films within the genre such as Christoper Nolan’s “The Dark Knight.” However, it’s not yet known if Leo has any interest in being part of the film.

Jared Leto is said to be unhappy with the studio’s attempt to use multiple Jokers, and he’s made his displeasure known to his CAA agents, and now rival agency WME is attempting to court him. However, fans haven’t seen the last of Leto’s Joker, as Leto is set to reprise his role in the “Suicide Squad” sequel along with “Gotham City Sirens” and a Joker/Harley Quinn spinoff.

The studio plans to branch off from the DCEU by making standalone movies featuring non-traditional takes on DC heroes and villains, and WB hopes to attract actors and filmmakers who don’t normally gravitate toward the comic book genre.
