Alex Kurtzman who wrote “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and “The Mummy” reboot will be directing the film.

Alex Kurtzman, writer of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 and director of THE MUMMY reboot will be at the helm of Sony's VENOM.

It was reported last year that “Edge of Tomorrow” writer Dante Harper had been tapped to write the script and Avi Arad was reportedly set to be attached as a producer. Original reports also claimed that the Venom movie was being envisioned as something that could kick off a franchise completely unrelated to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films.

Although it will be nice to see Venom get another run at the big screen, it will certainly be disappointing if he’s not presented in a way that would allow the character to potentially interact with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man down the line.

Spider-Man is obviously a pretty important character in the Venom mythos, so let’s just hope that Marvel and Sony can play nice and make another deal that benefits everyone.

UPDATE: Sony has announced that a director has not joined the project yet and that Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner will be directing the film.

Despite the fact that Andrew Garfield was relieved of his friendly neighborhood Spider-Man duties, he’s been very supportive of Tom Holland taking over the role. The first official trailer for “Spider-Man: Homecoming” was recently released, and Garfield made it clear that he’s excited for the film.

“I watched it, it’s great. I think it looks great, I’m really excited to see it,” Garfield told ET. “I’m just a big fan of Tom and that character, so I just can’t wait to see it.”

Andrew Garfield has had nothing but good things to say about Tom Holland, but unfortunately for him his run as Spider-Man didn’t exactly go as well as he had hoped. During a recent interview with Variety he noted that “The Amazing Spider-Man” films taught him that story and characters aren’t always at the “top of the priority list.”

“I signed up to serve the story, and to serve this incredible character that I’ve been dressing as since I was three, and then it gets compromised and it breaks your heart,” Garfield said. “I got heartbroken a little bit to a certain degree.”

Luckily there is more footage on the way, as Marvel also announced that a full trailer is set to air on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow.

So far Marvel has done a great job at keeping everything under wraps in regards to “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” A few photos from the set have leaked, but they’ve mostly just been of Tom Holland, and there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding some of the characters in the film.

As far as villains go, Spider-Man will be going up against the Vulture, who will be played by Michael Keaton, and it’s also been confirmed that the Tinkerer and Shocker will be a part of the film.

As you saw in the teaser, Jon Favreau will be reprising his role as Happy Hogan, and he’s said that Happy will be helping Peter out in the film. Robert Downey Jr. is also confirmed to appear as Tony Stark.

“Homecoming” will star Tom Holland as Spider-Man/Peter Parker opposite Michael Keaton who will be playing the Vulture, and Robert Downey Jr. will also be making an appearance as Tony Stark. It’s also rumored that Zendaya may actually be playing Mary Jane. You can get more on that here.

The new photos from the set show Tom Holland filming scenes both in and out of costume. A few of the photos show Spidey positioned up high near a rooftop, and others show him dressed casually, running as Peter Parker.

Fans got to see about 20 minutes of Spider-Man footage in “Captain America: Civil War” and it’s safe to say that Tom Holland nailed it.

Spider-Man made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut earlier this year, and next summer he’ll take on the Vulture in his first standalone film under the Marvel Studios banner.

Everybody knows that Spider-Man can’t fight bad guys such as the Vulture without his trusty web-shooters and @AtlantaFilming managed to snap some new photos of them on the set of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and they look awesome.

Several photos and a few videos from the set have leaked so far showing Holland in costume performing various scenes, but so far Marvel has revealed few details about the film. Luckily Marvel hooked Spider-Man fans up with a little bit of info at Comic Con this year as they released the official synopsis for “Spider-Man: Homecoming” which you can read below.

“A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.”

The synopsis is something to be excited about without a doubt, but Marvel definitely took things to the next level when they released concept art of The Vulture who has long been rumored to be the big bad of the film.

Tom Holland who made his debut as Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War” will be in the lead this time around and Tom has been taking his role very seriously. Holland has posted several videos and pictures showing off his Spider-Man skills over the past few months, but his latest picture is arguably his most interesting one yet.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man of course is the first Spider-Man to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he’s not the first Spider-Man to appear in a major motion picture. Tobey Maguire has the most appearances as Spider-Man on the big screen so far as he’s played the character in three separate films.

Recently a viral video clip has been making the rounds on the Internet and it shows Tobey Maguire watching footage of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man before going home and reminiscing about his time as the Old Web-Head. The clip reached Maguire himself and he seemed to get a kick out of it as he posted it on his Instagram page along with a positive message for Tom Holland.

It’s safe to say that Tobey Maguire is to Spider-Man what Michael Keaton is to Batman. For many people Tobey will be the face that they associate with Spider-Man and Peter Parker on the big screen for years to come. Tobey certainly made his mark on the role and it’s nice to see him show support for Tom Holland.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be returning to the big screen next summer in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” which opens July 6, 2017.

Marvel and Sony will be teaming up to make the film together and Kevin Feige recently talked about what Marvel’s role is in the collaboration. Collider asked Feige how much input Marvel has on the film and he explained that they’re mostly in charge of creative.

“We’re working very much [together]. It is a— I don’t know exactly what the credits will be, but it is a Sony Pictures production of a Marvel Studios film.” Feige said. “The agreement was that it is very much a Sony Pictures movie. Amy Pascal is co-producing it with us and [Sony Chairman] Tom Rothman is leading the charge for Sony and that we are the creative producers. We are the ones hiring the actor, introducing him in this film, and then working right now on the script and soon to be shooting the actual Spidey film.”

Spider-Man’s introduction in “Civil War” will be interesting as viewers won’t be seeing his origin. Spider-Man’s origin story is well known all over the world and Marvel doesn’t feel that it needs to be told again.

“We spend a lot of time as we work on these movies saying ‘Don’t take it for granted that the audience saw the other the other movies or that the audience is as versed in the comic books as we are.’ We take great pains to give you everything you need to know within the context of whatever movie you’re actually watching. However, we did say, if it’s safe to assume anything, it’s safe to assume that everybody knows how Spider-Man became Spider-Man and what that backstory was. We’ve seen it a number of times now, it’s its own well-known mythology. So we said, let’s reveal that there’s been a Spider-Man in the MCU and we meet him, as you see, in [Civil War].”

The currently untitled Spider-Man film will be swinging into theaters on July 7, 2017.
