Sony Said To Be Planning A Venom Franchise

Spider-Man is now safe and sound with the rest of the MCU as he’s set to make his debut in “Captain America: Civil War.” But Sony’s plans for Spider-Man characters don’t end with just Spider-Man himself. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Sony has tapped “Edge of Tomorrow” writer Dante Harper to write a script for a Venom movie which will be produced by Avi Arad.

It was noted that the movie is being envisioned as the start of a franchise that will be unrelated to Tom Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man film. It was also mentioned that it’s unclear whether this incarnation of Venom would be Eddie Brock, Flash Thompson or someone else.

Venom has only appeared in one Spider-Man film so far, that film being “Spider-Man 3.” Topher Grace was cast as Eddie Brock for the role and to this day fans are still pretty upset over how the character was treated in the film. Many feel he was underdeveloped and underutilized. But it sounds like the character could be finding redemption on the big screen by getting his very own franchise.

What do you think, are you excited for a Venom standalone franchise? Who do you think should play the character? Sound off in the comments below.
