Starship Troopers Is Reportedly Getting A Reboot

Back in 1997 when “Starship Troopers” was released, people didn’t know what to think. The science fiction movie focused on an intergalactic war between humans and giant bugs, and the film’s campy presentation has helped it gain a cult following over the last 19 years.

Since 1997 a few sequels have been released, but now The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that “Starship Troopers” is getting a full reboot.

According to the report, Columbia Pictures has tapped Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who recently worked on the upcoming “Baywatch” reboot to write the script for the film.

Neal H. Moritz of the “Fast & Furious” franchise, is set to produce along with Toby Jaffe. The two previously worked together on the “Total Recall” reboot which was released in 2012.

The 1997 film was based on the novel “Starship Troopers” by Robert A. Heinlein. It focused on Johnny Rico, and told the story of mankind’s war against the bugs.

The reboot will reportedly be going back to the novel to create a new take, instead of trying to capture the spirit of the first movie, and no one from the 1997 film is set to be involved.
